PRINTS

Towards Liberation
by Sophie Wang and Cynthia Yuan Cheng, commissioned by Katie Wang

8.5x11” and 11x14” handpulled screenprint, metallic gold ink on red 100lb paper.

2026 begins with coming together, a herd of fire horses thousands upon thousands strong to melt the ICE and gallop towards liberation. From the melt come the flowers of spring, the beautiful and thriving life that we fight for.

The year of the Fire Horse is a year of momentum, motion, amplification, and breaking free - our responsibility is to ensure this release of energy is put towards our collective liberation.

Lady's slippers on the left represent Minnesota - where Sophie lives, where ICE presence has brought escalating state-sponsored violence through Operation Metro Surge, and where neighbors are coming together throughout the entire state to keep each other safe. Fire poppies on the right represent California - where Cynthia and Katie live and where Sophie grew up, where ICE activity is intensifying even more after years of existing violence. The fire poppies, which only emerge after major fires, are also a dedication to the resilience of the Los Angeles community that continues to regrow after the fires that started 2025.

This is the 6th year that Katie has commissioned a Lunar New Year art print from Sophie and Cynthia. The commissions began when Katie, seeing mostly Lunar New Year messages about growing wealth and being rich, wanted decorations that depicted the things she dreamed of instead - things like collective liberation, interdependence, and community support. We hope that this art print brings some energy for togetherness and liberation in your own lives and communities!

Build Up, Tear Down!

Build up the systems that nurture and nourish, tear down the systems that surveil and oppress! This 13x19" handcarved and handprinted linocut block print portrays community members coming together to break down that which does not serve us so that life can flourish in its stead. We need the strong hands and the firm wills, and we need the bright suns and the flowing waters.

Spring Shadows
